[Log] if you get hungry enough, they say, you start eating your own heart

What: Off-comm, in-continuity RP between myself and [personal profile] sarcastass. A talk between Szelhamos and Tannusen within Tannusen's slumbering mind.
When: The night of this. After Tannusen eventually came down off his high enough to sleep.
Warnings: Blunt mention of sexual acts also done off-comm. Description of a decayed body and the minor cannibalism of it. And, being what plot this is a part of; more angst than you can shake a tiger at.

Contacting the player:

PMing my character journals is the easiest way. We can exchange messenger IDs from there. I have: Astra (trillian), AIM, Skype, and Discord.

You can also find me on plurk at [plurk.com profile] aroihkin, on tumblr at [tumblr.com profile] aroihkin, and on deviant art at... you guessed it! [deviantart.com profile] aroihkin.

Alts:

Akara Krinir | Original Setting | [personal profile] escape_artist
Noble, born and raised... and outcast, a visual artist in drawing, painting, and graffiti street art, and not interested in putting up with your shit. A non-combatant who still won't hesitate to throw something at your head and chew you out, even if she might have to run for her fucking life directly after.

Alleyana Lavellan | Dragon Age | [personal profile] inquisitor_lavellan
The Inquisitor, the Herald of Andraste, Inquisitor First-Thaw, Comtesse of Kirkwall, and Red Jenny. She has stopped two wars, sealed the Breach in the sky twice, and forced world leaders to cooperate with one another for the common good... more than once. Down one limb and still not done, not yet. Try her.

Amberdrake | The Heralds of Valdemar | [personal profile] amberdrake
Amberdrake is a kestra'chern, a type of healer and therapist who focuses on healing both the body and the mind. He has both the Healing Gift and the Empathic Gift, as well as decades of training that required neither. Taken from after his second book, this is his fourth game... and he remembers them all.

Koumyou Sanzo | Saiyuki | [personal profile] its_dad_sanzo
Koumyou is a rather difficult man to describe. The Buddhist high priest is tasked with guarding the Seitan Sutra, which governs over holiness and the yang principle, while he himself is often compared to the moon, beautiful and unreachable, observing the world from afar. And indeed, the moonlight itself is markedly stronger in his presence.

Rick Sanchez | Rick and Morty | [personal profile] earth_rick_c_137
Morty C-137: "I wanted you to have a normal life, that's something you can't have when Rick shows up. Everything real turns fake, everything right is wrong, all you know is that you know nothing and he knows everything. And, well, well he's not a villain Summer, but, he shouldn't be your hero. He's more like a demon, or a super fucked-up god."

Tannusen | World of Darkness (OC) | [personal profile] black_black_heart
A bengal tiger Pooka Faerie. Heir to a minor criminal empire that hides its inner workings inside a traveling circus troupe, Tannusen has been in two more circus troupes since escaping his father's at sixteen. A survivor of severe trauma and abuse, he hides himself under a mask now as surely as he ever did while walking the tight-rope for a crowd.

On death and combat:

I prefer to avoid killing or 'permanently' maiming my characters unless it's part of a discussed plot.

I like combat RP! But I have to know the other player won't turn it into a pissing match. Most of my characters are not pushovers; even my pacifistic non-combatant Amberdrake has a trick or three up his sleeve for when people get violent with him.

So, as a general rule, I prefer to have RP'd with someone a bunch before doing combat, and like to know who's winning in advance (my friends and I often use online dice rolls for this, after discussing the odds for each, unless it's going to be a floor-wipe).

Setting: old World of Darkness - Changeling, the Dreaming

xxxxxThe gates to the Realms of Faerie are closed. Humankind has turned its back on the magical in favor of a new dream — a dream of a sterile, banal world with no mysteries or wonder. A world where all the questions have been answered and all the puzzles of the universe solved. And yet, in the quest for this Utopia, much of humankind has lost a little of themselves. They have forgotten how to dream....

xxxxxWhen the last trods to Arcadia closed and the gates slammed shut, there still remained a few of the Fair Folk living alongside humanity. These stranded fae were forced to adopt a new way of living in order to survive the sheer power of humanity's collective disbelief in all things magical: they became mortal themselves, sheltering their fragile faerie souls in mortal flesh. And yet these fae continue to dream of a day when humanity will once more return to the mystical. In the centuries following the Shattering, the fae have quietly fostered the dreams of mortals, seeking to usher in a return of the halcyon days when the fae were welcome and could openly walk among mortals.

xxxxxChangeling is a storytelling game about the Dreaming. It's about lost innocence, about the cynicism of adulthood and make-believe come to life, about imagination taking fruit. Herein you will find an invisible world of fantasy that exists alongside our reality — a place of delight, mystery and enormous peril.

xxxxxWhen you play Changeling, you will come to understand that faerie tales aren't just for children (not that they ever were), and that they don't always have happy endings. You will discover what it is like to be exiled from your homeland, persecuted for your true nature and unable to express the beauty welling up from your soul. You will know what it is like to be alone in a crowd, to be aware of the power of dreams and to be able to tap the power of magic. And you will learn what it is like to be helpless in the arms of Fate and unable to stop the crushing weight of Banality from robbing your memory of all you have discovered.

xxxxxEnter into the realm of the Dreaming — a place of unimagined wonder and impossible terror.

xxxxxxxxxx- Changeling: the Dreaming pg4

xxxxxChangeling Kind

xxxxxYou lead a double life, alternating between reality and fantasy. Caught in the middle ground between dream and wakefulness, you are neither wholly fae nor wholly mortal, but burdened with the cares of both. Finding a happy medium between the wild, insane world of the fae and the deadening, banal world of humanity is essential if you are to remain whole.

xxxxxSuch a synthesis is by no means easy. Mortal affairs seem ephemeral and trivial when you stand amid the ageless magnificence of the Seelie Court. When you don garments spun of pure moonlight and drink wine distilled from mountain mists, how can you go back to polyester and soda pop?

xxxxxAlas, you have no choice. Although your faerie self is ageless and eternal, your mortal body and mind grow older and less resilient as you move through life. Sooner or later, nearly all changelings succumb to one of two equally terrifying conditions: Banality, the loss of their faerie magic; or Bedlam, the loss of their mortal reason.

xxxxxBut is this fate inevitable? Can you retain your childlike wonder while fighting against the frigid Banality that seeks to numb your mind and steal your past? Can you ride the currents of the Dreaming without being swept away in the maelstrom of Bedlam?

xxxxxYou stand alone in the mundane world. No mortal will ever understand the depth of your alienation, strangeness and uniqueness. Though you may try to communicate your condition through art (and many have tried and failed), only those with faerie blood will see, understand and appreciate what you are.

xxxxxAn exile among exiles. Lost among the lost. The stranger in every crowd.

xxxxxHail, fellow traveler — welcome to the Dreaming.

xxxxxThe World of Darkness

xxxxxFast food debris and crumpled newspapers skitter along the street, pushed along by the gray day s chill wind. Sales clerks and secretaries, released by the late hour from their cubicles, scurry out into the streets, navy and slate coats pulled tightly around them as they make their way to their high-rise boxes. Traffic stalls at each light, fuming clouds of exhaust half-hiding the plodding pedestrians. A vagrant skulks near a dumpster, his thinning hair plastered to his scalp by dirty snow. Meanwhile, high above the city, secure in glass and metal fortresses, captains of industry count their coins, greedy eyes shining in their sterile boardrooms. Arms dealers chuckle, waving fistfuls of money, little caring for the slaughter brought about by their sales. Goth children, swathed in black, pale faces searching for something to believe in, gyrate desperately to the music pounding away the emptiness. Gliding through concealing shadows, vampires smile sardonically at these wannabe dark souls, awaiting the feast that is to come. A beaten, abandoned child moans in her nightmares, pulling her cardboard box closer around her as she cries.

xxxxxCityscape in early winter, the World of Darkness. Like our mundane world, but made a little darker, a little more terrifying.

xxxxxThe Enchanted World

xxxxxBrightly hued wrappers and balloons dance in the wind, tumbling and rolling along the street. Pale and dark dolls march in time to music unheard as they enter their many-windowed homes. Vibrant metal bugs maneuver through elaborate rituals, their breath puffing merrily. An old satyr peers around the corner, laughing at the twinkling snowflakes that softly fall around him. Dreams take shape, born of hopes and fears. Greedy-eyed dragons soar aloft on the brisk winter breeze, alert for shiny coins dropped in the darkness below. An artist, inspired by the freshly fallen snow, begins to paint a scene of ancient snow-capped towers set amid a land of fantastic beauty. Pushed to the wall by terror, a child creates an imaginary fanged horror that stalks and frightens, always on the verge of pouncing. Children dance merrily in the snow, sharing rides on sleds as they whisk down steep hills, their screams of joy echoing throughout the park.

xxxxxChangeling cityscape in winter. Like, yet unlike, the rest of the World of Darkness, it is a little brighter, a little more colorful, but sometimes no less frightening.

xxxxxChimerical Reality

xxxxxBefore their Chrysalises, changelings hover in a half-reality, seeing the world as others do, but touched by flashes of otherness. They experience momentary visions of chimerical reality without understanding what they see, or hear strangely compelling sounds without recognizing their origins. Sometimes it is a smell or taste or even a tactile difference that is incongruous with what is experienced by everyone around them. Children, too young to know that these alterations are not normal occurrences, simply accept them.

xxxxxTeens and adults, more rooted in the "real" world, often dismiss these experiences as hallucinations, frequently denying the occurrences so they won't be labeled as "weirdos." Some respond to the stimuli that "isn't there" and end up in counseling or a psychiatric ward. But what they experience is real — for changelings.

About exotic pooka.

Everything about pooka I can link to online is about what silly little shits they are and ha ha they're always playing games and laughing ha ha ha. I'm like BUT THAT'S JUST THE LIKE, SQUIRRELS AND SHIT... which is all anyone plays anyway.

But then the Pooka-specific book has one specific chunk as well as mentioning here and there that predator pooka are especially unnerving and alarming to everyone else.

A section taken straight from the World of Darkness: Changeling, Pooka kithbook:

xxxxxExotic Pooka

xxxxxOver the past ten years, some very odd pooka have begun to surface. Every country in the world has its own myths regarding the role of animals. Not all pooka come from the Americas or Europe. Scholars have documented pooka with affinities that range from camels to jaguars, cobras to zebras, and yaks to penguins. Though these types of pooka are extremely rare and very surprising, they do exist.

xxxxxThis type of pooka tends to be more dangerous than those who have citified affinities. The wild runs more freely in their blood. Most don't fit well in cities, though some have learned to adapt. If for no other reason, most of these pooka avoid cities because they put themselves in extreme danger when they shift into their animal affinity. Imagine the reaction of the mortal populace if a crocodile or lion were spotted in its apartment or roaming the streets. Most people would, at best, call the authorities and, at worst, shoot on sight. Although it doesn't hurt pooka to remain in their humanoid form indefinitely, they grow stir-crazy and irritable if they don't indulge their affinity from time to time. Many find relief from this by taking regular trips into the countryside for weekends of slithering, ranging, animalistic relaxation.

xxxxxThose pooka whose animals risk extinction walk a very fine line. It has been noted that once an animal disappears from the world, the pooka related to it gradually disappear as well. Though some pooka have affinities with animals already extinct, they fear that next time around, they won't reincarnate and will disappear as well. These changelings feel the loss of the species like a never-healing wound and mourn that loss throughout their limited existence. No one knows if they can reincarnate as a more common type of pooka or if these faerie souls will be lost forever upon the death of their mortal bodies.

+sheet

I don't plan to roll dice for most things since this is a free-form game, nor will I hold myself 100% to this sheet, but it gives an idea of Tannusen's abilities. He's a little terrifying. I played him on two consecutive MUSHes spanning years, where he slowly grew this heinous through hard-earned XP and time-consuming XP spends.

For the uninitiated, a 5 in an attribute or a skill is the absolute pinnacle of capability, whether you're playing a human, a vampire, a mage, etc. Usually, 5 is the hard cap, but Tannusen's physical attributes (based off his human form points, + a specific number of points each) go up past 5 in tiger form.

2 in an attribute is "human average". Skills start at 0 and ramp up from there.

I had players actually trying to kill him on those MUSHes (they were allowed to without player consent!), so he became a definite combat twink out of necessity.
